There has been a lot of buzz about Immigration Reform recently, primarily that it is dead.
This confused me.
“Wait… Why is it now dead? What’s changed?”
This only led to more questions:
“Who is Dave Brat?”
“Why does a single Virginia primary sway an important conversation for the entire nation?”
The answers are, respectively, “It doesn’t matter.” and “It shouldn’t and hopefully won’t.”
I was searching for an effective way to share my perspective on this when I abruptly stopped. I didn’t need to anymore. Someone else articulated their perspective on Immigration Reform ca. 6.23.14 more insightfully and humorously than I ever could.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is yet another great show from HBO.
Regardless of your political bent or your view on immigration, watch this clip.

My favorite excerpt is this:
So the argument is… “We can’t let the immigrants in because they’ll never vote for us.” To which I might have a solution. What if – and this is going to sound crazy – you just tried treating them better? Maybe even as if, and I don’t want to push you outside your comfort zone, maybe even as if they are human beings who might have something hypothetically to offer the country?
